The Salvation Army Peace River Community Church brought together over 160 volunteers, clients, staff, and members of the community on Family Day for their annual Volunteer Appreciation and Community Meal.

“It is so humbling bringing the whole community together and having a whole mix of people sit and talk together,” Lieutenant Peck Ee Wong said. “Some are well off, some have recently lost their jobs, and our Catholic sisters and local Baptist minister were also here. There were no spectators, everyone was family and everyone was involved.”

It was with this sense of family and cooperation that everyone enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the fixings courtesy of Peace County Co-op and pizza donated by Dominos. Volunteers who help run the food bank, pack and distribute hampers, ring the bells during the Kettle Campaign and assist in other capacities were recognized at the dinner and given small tokens of appreciation. And the volunteer spirit was contagious – a woman who recently lost her job approached Lt. Wong and asked if The Salvation Army still needed volunteers. She starts volunteering at the food bank on Thursday!
