When disaster strikes, The Salvation Army is often the first on the scene – and it was no different when the waters rose in June 2013 and flooded much of Southern Alberta. The Salvation Army provided assistance to over 50,000 people in the early weeks after the flood, and continues to support those in need today. We could not provide the assistance we do without the tremendous support of our community, and one such community partner was Mark’s.

Immediately after the floods hit, they arrived with support of volunteers and of products such as work gloves, clothing, and boots. On March 5th, Captain Pam Goodyear, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations & Development for the Alberta & Northern Territories Division, was invited to the first annual Store General Managers Conference in Niagara Falls, ON where Mark’s Chief Operating Officer, Harry Taylor; Vice President of Operations, Kris Maslanyk; and Vice President of Industrial, Accessories, Footwear & Product Innovation, Iain Summers, presented a cheque for $21,940.02 to The Salvation Army to assist with their ongoing work with those affected by the floods. These funds were raised in Mark’s stores across Alberta.

The Salvation Army is very grateful for this wonderful partnership with Mark’s. Canadians from coast to coast and from all over Alberta rallied together in a time of need and together we were able to provide hope, and will continue to do so for as long as we are needed.
