With the first day of classes fast approaching, a large number of Calgary parents are without enough money for school supplies. Families who are receiving support through The Salvation Army social service programs rely heavily on the Backpacks for Kids program to ensure their children’s education is met with success. Last year the program distributed 1020 backpacks. Due to a sharp increase in demand, school supplies are running low leaving the program in critical need of donations.

The Salvation Army is asking the community for help with donations of large sturdy backpacks for high school students, 1” binders, notebooks and geometry sets.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations during normal business hours (M – F 8:00am to 5:00pm) before Sept 15, 2012:

    • Family Resource Centre – 1731 29th Street SW
    • Forest Lawn office  – 1826 36th Street SE
    • The Centre of Hope (including weekends) 420 9th Ave SE.
