WINNIPEG, MB – Members and staff welcomed Mr. Rick Lussier, Director of Community Grants with The Winnipeg Foundation, on Friday, November 6th to Community Venture.  Mr. Lussier presented keys for a new program van to Crystal Ryland, Day Program Coordinator.  The Winnipeg Foundation provided a grant for Community Venture to purchase and convert a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan SE which can accommodate two wheelchairs.

The Salvation Army Community Venture program has been providing day programs and outreach in Winnipeg since 1986 to women and men living with mental and physical disabilities.  Community Venture is devoted to supporting adults living with disabilities by providing them opportunities to work and participate in the community.  "Transportation is a critical element in providing our members volunteering opportunities, community service function and recreational activities," explains Kim Park, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Community Venture program.

Mr. Lussier said that "The Winnipeg Foundation is more than happy to partner with The Salvation Army on this project.  We've been around for almost 95 years and we have donors from all walks of life that provide support and allow us to partner with organizations like yours that do so much for the Community.  So we're very happy to help your members get around a little better so that they can continue to provide volunteer service which helps the broader community."

Major Margaret McLeod, Area Commander for The Salvation Army – Prairie Division (East), in thanking The Winnipeg Foundation, indicated that this new van provides safety, accessibility, and social impact for our members which builds self-esteem and community spirit throughout Winnipeg.
