WINNIPEG, MB – This past weekend, thousands of shoppers lined up with donations of toys to build a Toy Mountain at St. Vital Centre. Cheerful volunteers from Scotiabank, the Winnipeg Fire Department and Bell Media joined The Salvation Army in receiving and stacking toys to help make Christmas brighter for children in need.

Gifts streamed into the waiting arms of volunteers from adults and from children, some of whom were smaller than the gifts they brought. Other young contributors brought in cash, clenched in small fists, that they proudly proclaimed had come from their own piggy banks.

In all, 4207 toys and $7,499.02 in cash were brought in by generous Winnipeggers and soon will be distributed to parents to brighten their children’s Christmas morning.

Mark Young from The Salvation Army Weetamah, which serves at Toy Mountain Headquarters, was very pleased with the outpouring of support from the community: “We appreciate the kindness and benevolence shown by the people of Winnipeg; your donations will go to help make this Christmas season bright for local children. You are making a difference in your city. If you haven’t had a chance to yet, please come visit us at any of the drop off centres and help out!”

If you missed your chance this past weekend, you can still do your part to help make a Winnipeg child’s Christmas merry and bright by dropping off your toy donation at any Scotiabank location in Winnipeg or Selkirk, Winnipeg Fire Station, Winnipeg Police Station or The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Online donations can be made here.

Join in this holiday and make a difference today.
