For the second year in a row, the Winona Peach Festival, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) and Hamilton’s Eastgate Square teamed up to support the Salvation Army Food Bank.  The Peach Festival and HSR offer a shuttle from Eastgate Square parking lot to the festival site.  The shuttle is free with a donation to the food bank.

The annual Peach Festival is a community based event celebrating its 45th year in 2012.  Over the course of the weekend more than 100,000 visitors were expected to flock to the festival to take in the sights and sounds and enjoy a slice of peach pie or a famous peach sundae.  Festival goers riding the shuttle contributed 3500 lbs of food to be distributed by the Army’s food bank program.

The event is a great summer time boost for the food bank, which is the largest in the city.  “We are serving over 100 families every day,” says Major Bill King, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Community and Family Services.  “Community support is essential to our work.  We are very thankful to the Peach Festival, Eastgate Square,HSR, and our donors for the way everyone has come together to help us offer hope and dignity to some of the city’s most vulnerable families.”
