biketreck.jpgMatt Bursey is one dedicated brother – he is willing to give up creature comforts for 6 months and travel an incredible distance by bicycle to help change the world that his sister lives in. On Thursday April 3rd, Matt will be departing on a Far and Wide Bike Trek to help raise awareness and support for adults with developmental disabilities. Inspired by his sister who has Down’s Syndrome, Matt will be raising funds for The Salvation Army – Lawson Ministries.

“She has taught me how important it is to recognize the unique and amazing abilities that she has and that are sometimes overlooked by the general population” says Matt.

Matt will leave from Hamilton on Thursday and will travel 12,000 km through the United States and Canada, stopping along the way at centres and schools to talk about attitudes towards people with developmental disabilities. Matt hopes to raise $100,000 for the new Salvation Army Autism program to operate in downtown Hamilton as well.

“We are so proud of Matt for his vision and his dedication to be a champion for those who are often overlooked. The Salvation Army is so pleased to see a young person stepping out in such a bold way to help.” Jennifer Kellner, Major Gifts Officer
