Christmas is over, and many people are sorting through closets to accommodate new items received. With this in mind, now would be a good time to donate your gently-used clothes or household items to The Salvation Army. When you donate these items, you help people who really need it.

“Any donation goes a long way in providing support,” says Michele Walker, Salvation Army Thrift Store National Retail Operations Manager. “We are always in need of gently-used clothing, household goods and furniture―especially in the long winter months. There are thousands of individuals who are in need of winter gear and accessories to help them through these cold months.”

Donated clothes will also:

  • Give vulnerable adults increased confidence at job interviews
  • Help low-income children wear quality clothing
  • Help disaster victims with urgent needs
  • Provide warmth to refugees
  • Keep unwanted textiles away from local landfills
  • Generate funds to support Salvation Army programs such as children’s camps and shelter services

“We make it easy to donate,” says Walker. “Our Donor Welcome Centres are open seven days a week.  Donations can also be made at Salvation Army donation bins 24-hours-a-day.
