Summertime for hundreds of kids from low-income homes nationwide has gotten a little brighter thanks to the support of The Salvation Army Thrift Store’s ‘Send a Kid to Camp’ campaign.

From April 11 to June 11, in 106 Thrift Store locations, the campaign, now in its sixth year, raised a record breaking $133,894 from generous donors. Aiming to send 500 kids to camp, the goal was surpassed, enabling 608 kids to enjoy their summer at 13 Salvation Army Summer Camps across the country.

“We are overjoyed to be supporting such an amazing initiative of sending kids to camp,” says Michele Walker, National Retail Operations Manager. “One week at camp is an uplifting experience for these children, one that they would normally not have had an opportunity to be involved in. They will now have memories that will last a lifetime.”

"We thank all of our amazing donors and supporters who helped to make this possible."

At camp, children have a chance to get outdoors and stay active through hiking in the woods, mountain biking, canoeing, campfires, climbing, sports and games. They also participate in group activities, share in themed evening programs and more.

“Send a Kid to Camp is a campaign that is close to the hearts of our store teams and they have done exceptional work in giving back to their communities,” Walker added. “We thank all of our amazing donors and supporters who helped to make this possible. We are looking forward to next year’s campaign!”
