Jesse Litsch and teammates to provide Toronto-area children with an unforgettable day at the ballpark

Toronto, Canada, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 — Prior to this evening’s game at Rogers Centre, Blue Jays pitcher Jesse Litsch and teammates will provide everlasting memories to a group of 50 children from the Salvation Army, as the Major League Baseball Players Trust’s “Buses for Baseball” program motors into Toronto.

The Salvation Army is an international faith-based organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and more than 120 countries around the world. The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, providing shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction. The Salvation Army serves children and youth, providing after school programs, mentorship, summer camp, sports activities, school breakfast programs and sports that encourage fun, safety and a bright future.

Courtesy of the Players Trust, the children will receive round-trip transportation to the game, meet the players, and receive free tickets, food, beverages and souvenirs.

This season, “Buses for Baseball” will provide transportation and personal greetings for more than 750 underprivileged children attending Major League Baseball games as invited guests of their big league heroes. “Buses for Baseball” will provide many of the children with their first chance to attend a Major League Baseball game.

The Players Trust enjoys support from the Toronto Blue Jays organization in providing this unique, up close and personal opportunity to share the thrill of Major League Baseball with those less fortunate.
