Newfoundland and Labrador welcomes new leaders

The Newfoundland and Labrador Division welcomed new leaders in August. The Welcome and Installation Service took place on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Gander Citadel. Lt.-Colonels Eddie and Genevera Vincent were welcomed by some 350 people and installed by Colonels Mark and Sharon Tillsley. Also on hand were General Bramwell Tillsley (rtd.) and DHQ staff. Participants included the 2016 Camp Staff who led in worship, the Gander Citadel Band, pianist Tina Stryde who played for the offertory and a vocal by Major Marlene George.

Long service bars were also presented at the welcome meeting to Lt.-Colonels Eddie and Genevera Vincent (30 years), Majors Lloyd and Marlene George (30 years), Majors Lyndone and Lisa Hale (30 years) and Major Lorraine Abrahamse (35 Years).

International News: Salvation Army Provides Assistance After Earthquake in China

The Salvation Army is providing support in Yunnan Province, China, after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake on Sunday 3 August caused widespread devastation – particularly around Ludian County, which was the epicentre. Upwards of 600 people lost their lives in the disaster and more than 3,000 were injured. Local reports suggest that at least 80,000 houses collapsed and nearly 230,000 survivors are in need of emergency resettlement. Salvation Army emergency relief personnel have reached Ludian and connected with the local relief officials. The survivors have been placed in more than 100 resettlement points in Ludian.
