Hurricane Igor Assistance Strategy
(October 18, 2010) The Salvation Army is pleased to announce specific strategies in regards to disbursing funds donated to victims of Hurricane Igor through the VOCM Cares Foundation Radiothon held on September 29, 2010.
The assistance program will be managed by Mr. Aubrey Vincent, Director of Emergency Services with The Salvation Army. The Hurricane Igor Advisory Committee, under the chairmanship of Major Wade Budgell, Secretary For Public Relations & Development with The Salvation Army, will continue to meet regularly to monitor and give support to all aspects of the program. The Advisory Committee, representing a cross section of various disciplines, both from within The Salvation Army and without, includes Mayor Sam Sinyard of Marystown, Mayor Fred Best of Clarenville and Mayor Jim Miller of Trinity.
Assistance will be provided through an application process. Applications will circulated through municipal and public offices or can be accessed Monday – Friday by phoning 1-877-741-IGOR (4467) or emailing Igor_helpforhome@can.salvationarmy.org and by contacting community outreach workers who have been appointed to facilitate the application process for the three regions most severely impacted by the Hurricane, namely:

Additional information can also be accessed Monday – Friday by phoning 1-877-741-IGOR (4467) or emailing Igor_helpforhome@can.salvationarmy.org
Major Wade Budgell, Secretary For Public Relations with The Salvation Army, says, “The Salvation Army has been working diligently through the Hurricane Igor Advisory Committee to implement a process that will be most effective and efficient in identifying needs and providing resources to help families recover some of their losses that are not recoverable through any other programs.”
Budgell stressed that Army will be providing assistance only where gaps exist in government programs or where losses are not covered by personal home insurance. Budgell also says the Army is keen to coordinate with other service agencies and organizations in order to avoid duplication of services and ensure wisest use of public donations.
The Advisory Committee would like donors, and the public at large, to know that the program will be family focused and requests for assistance will be processed as quickly as possible after assessments have been finalized.
