VOCM Cares Foundation Raises Over $1 Million
(Sept. 29th) Mr. John Steele,, President of Steele Communications, owner and operator of VOCM Radio, 99.1 HITS FM and K-ROCK 97.5 FM, through the VOCM Cares Foundation, raised over $1 Million towards the assistance of those who are devastated by the effects of Emergency and Disaster in the province of Newfoundland. These funds were raised through the generous donations to the VOCM Cares Foundation through the “HOPE FOR HOME” Radio-Thon that was held on September 29th.
Both VOCM Cares Foundation and Salvation Army officials alike were amazed at the caring attitude of both corporate and individual donors, from home and abroad, who phoned in pledges or made their way to the Avalon Mall with their donation.
“I am both humbled and amazed at the level of trust that donors put in The Salvation Army to correctly and strategically steward these donations to those who need it most, however, I do believe that The Salvation Army is ready and willing to meet this challenge.”, stated Major Wade Budgell, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations and Development.

Hurricane Igor Assistance Strategy Announced

The Salvation Army here in My Town were great in helping us in every way.Igor was a force that hurt this area in many ways and after the ice storm we were not expecting such a great powerful storm as Igor, But with the help of the Salvation Army Fire Dept RCMP Human resources Health sectors our Town reps Ground Search & rescue Education people The arm Forces and many more we have come a long way.
I am proud that our Town Challenged others to match our $5000.00 Donation to VOCM because we felt it could help those missed placed or flooded in the areas affected by Igor. Now I would like to know if their will be a committee put in place to over see the funding collected, and is it true that The Salvation Army will hire 3 people to do the work? That’s what I have been told but I feel a person should always check things out. Now I would like to say Thank you to The Salvation Army. God Bless Mayor Betty Fitzgerald
