Beary Merry Christmas to all: Beloved concert series back on the road


A holiday tradition is in full swing, as the Beary Merry Christmas concert series is off and running after a pair of shows in Halifax this week.

Get your tickets: One month to start of Beary Merry Concert Series


Tickets are now available for purchase for all five nights of the Beary Merry Christmas Concert Series, touring four Maritime locations in November and December.

The concert series, featuring the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, is in its 17th year, and will make stops in Halifax, Moncton, Liverpool and Sydney this year.

Maritime Division says goodbye to outgoing officers this week


Transfers are a part of army life. The Salvation Army is no different, and the end of June marks the annual change of appointments for many of the 900 officers here in the Territory.

Typically serving appointments of three to five years, moving about the country and beyond is familiar ground for Salvation Army officers. This week, the Maritime Division is saying goodbye to 12 officers and one longtime employee as this year’s annual change takes place.

Sydney teenager set to represent The Salvation Army at the London Olympics


While the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will generate excitement all over the world, they will be especially thrilling for 18-year-old Taylor Burton of Sydney, NS. Burton was recently chosen to represent the Maritime Division on The Salvation Army’s Territorial Mission Team at the games in London, England.

Though the details haven’t been completely finalized, Burton says the Mission Team will be doing things such as helping with sports programs for children and participating in awareness-raising campaigns.

Cape Bretoners knit for The Salvation Army


Icy roads aren’t enough to keep Cape Bretoners from helping out their communities. Despite the weekend’s bad weather conditions, about 40 knitters gathered at McConnell Library for the KnitFit Community Knit-a-thon on Saturday, Feb. 25. Items produced in the Knit-a-thon were donated to The Salvation Army’s “Clothe-a-Family” program in Sydney.

Two wheels for toys – Motorcycle toy drive to benefit The Salvation Army in Cape Breton


The Cape Breton Free-Wheelin’ Motorcycle Association is hosting its 25th annual Salvation Army Toy Ride this Sunday, Sept. 25.

Registration for the event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Sydney Mines Community Centre. From there, riders will take off at noon and make their way through North Sydney, Sydney, Whitney Pier, New Waterford, Dominion, Glace Bay and Reserve Mines, finally ending at the Salvation Army on Inglis Street in Sydney.
