Salvation Army helps with flood relief efforts in Sydney

The Salvation Army is on the ground assisting with clean up and relief efforts in Sydney. The Community Response Unit Mobile Kitchen has been providing hot soup, sandwiches, and beverages to volunteers, crew and community members.

Majors Dena and Kent Hepditch want to bring the Sydney Community together.  Major Dena Hepditch has helped spearhead several projects in the Sydney area, including organizing a hot meal for teachers at Sydney Academy. The teachers have had a tough year, with the death of several students, so Dena decided to plan this meal as a way to lift their spirits. Christmas Kettle Campaign sets record with over $1.8 million raised in the Maritimes

Maritimers answered the bell again for those in need in their community, contributing a record total of $1.84 million to The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas kettle campaign in 2014.

Kettles appeared at 200 locations throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, collecting funds from mid-November until Christmas Eve. In 2013, Maritimers donated $1.71 million to the campaign.

Maritimers gather for 50+ rallies

More than 300 Maritimers gathered together across the region for three 50+ Rallies, where they enjoyed fellowship and an all-around fun time.

The rallies were held in Sussex, NB, Sydney, NS, and Halifax and kicked off with sing-songs and hot luncheons. Following the luncheon, attendees took part in afternoon services led by Major Winnie Perrin, Divisional Secretary for Adult Ministries for the Maritime Division.
