Open house demonstrates that poverty isn’t always easy to see

    You can’t always tell who’s living in poverty or who needs help making ends meet. And more often than not, poverty is closer to you than you think.

    To promote awareness of this issue, The Salvation Army hosted an ‘Open House’ exhibit in early May. But this was not your typical open house. Instead, people walked into a home that outlined some of the challenges faced by a family impacted by poverty. The Salvation Army recreated the living circumstances, room by room, with plaques that detail statistics of poverty in Canada and highlight what The Salvation Army is doing to help.

    With 15 hidden cameras setup throughout the house, The Salvation Army created three short videos that show people’s reactions to the exhibit. You can watch one of the videos below.
