Halifax Water, in partnership with The Salvation Army, is pleased to continue the H2O-Help to Others Water Assistance Program. The program, which started in 2011, provides valuable financial assistance to Halifax Water customers truly in need.

The H2O Fund is intended to assist low income households in an emergency, especially those with no other resources available. The H2O Fund assists with the cost of residential water and waste water.

Halifax Water Communications and Public Relations Coordinator James Campbell said, “We believe in the program and the importance of helping people in the Halifax Regional Municipality.  We hope that by taking care of a portion of their water bill, it will give them the opportunity to focus on other important needs.”

Halifax Water is providing annual base funding of $25,000 with the potential to reach $75,000 through a Halifax Water employee contribution program. The H2O Fund is fully administered by The Salvation Army.

“As water bills continue to increase, people who are struggling financially have to make some difficult decisions,” says James Woods, Special Programs Coordinator at the Halifax Community and Family Services. “We don’t want a family to have to choose between paying for food or their water bill, and we hope that this program helps to alleviate some of that financial burden.”

Anyone seeking assistance must complete and submit the H2O Fund application with the required supporting documents. Application forms are also available at Halifax Water’s 450 Cowie Hill Rd. office, The Salvation Army’s Gottingen St. location, and all HRM Customer Services Centres.
