Approximately 70 youth aged 12-25 made their way from all corners of the Maritime Division to take part in the annual Winter Youth Retreat in Truro, N.S.  The theme of the weekend, The Walking Dead, prompted youth to think about their relationship with God, and at the end of the retreat, surrender to Him.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for youth to come together across the Maritime Division to build new friendships, share in God’s love and learn from others," says Lisa Hillier, Divisional Youth Secretary.

Guest speakers Territorial Youth Secretary, Major Keith Pike and Assistant Territorial Youth Secretary, Major Shona Pike led participants through a weekend of renewal, prayer and reflection, as they discussed how we need to be alive in our relationship with Jesus and how small acts can have a ripple effect to create large-scale change.

One of Maritime’s Got Talent acts, youth dance to the YMCA with glow sticks.

With a focus on fellowship and camaraderie, youth took part in activities including a photo booth, and shared their talents on the main stage for an installment of Maritime’s Got Talent.  There was a little bit of everything, including skits, sports skills, and much more.  “There was a wonderful showcase of talent across the Division,” says Lisa. “It was a lot of fun.”

The Salvation Army hosts four youth events throughout the Maritimes each year, to give young people an opportunity to enjoy and learn from each other. During daily life, many of them keep in contact using The Salvation Army Maritime Youth Facebook page. These connections are important as they strive to better themselves, and the world around them.
