This Christmas season Maritimers once again answered the ringing bells and gave generously to help those in need in our community. This year over $1.9 million was raised for The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Kettles were present in over 200 locations throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, collecting funds from mid-November until Christmas Eve. In 2014, generous donations totaling  $1.83 million were donated to the kettle campaign.

Christmas kettle funds are used throughout the year to provide the basic necessities of life—food, clothing and shelter to individuals in need. The money is also used to help stock food banks run by The Salvation Army, provide emergency relief (through Emergency Disaster Services), and more. During the Christmas season, the money helps to support Christmas hampers that provide food and toys for thousands of people across the Maritime region.

All money raised in a community remains in that community to support the work of The Salvation Army. Several communities saw an increase in their kettle totals, including an increase of $30,000 raised in New Brunswick and $37,000 in Nova Scotia. Across the Maritimes there was a new record set in matching through Walmart Fill the Kettle Day, which raised over $27,000.

"We are grateful for the continued support across the Maritimes of our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign," says Major Alison Cowling, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Maritime Division."This new record total is thanks to the incredible generosity of donors who continue to support us each year. The funds that were raised will help us to assist those in need throughout the Maritimes and continue to give hope today where it is needed most."

Nationally, The Salvation Army raised over $22 million from coast-to-coast surpassing its goal of $21 million. Last year The Salvation Army helped over 1.85 million people in need. Thank you for your continued support in helping us to give hope today.
