One in eight Canadian households struggle to put food on the table. During Christmastime those in need have difficulty purchasing basic necessities, let alone adding the stress of buying a Christmas gift for their children.

To ease some of this stress, The Salvation Army distributed Christmas hampers and toys to help make Christmas brighter for those in need.

After receiving a Walmart gift card Patricia shared that she was excited to go buy clothes for her teenage daughter. “My daughter needs new clothes, but without this help I wouldn’t be able to afford them.”

In the Halifax area last year 2,500 people received Christmas hampers and 4,600 toys were distributed.

This support would not be possible without people volunteering their time this season. From sorting and packing toys, to Premiere Van Lines (provides storage and transportation) as well as Portland Street Honda and City Mazda (provide rides home for people picking up hampers).

Laura has volunteered for the past four years with The Salvation Army, she says “It’s always a great experience and nice to meet people who are kind and extremely grateful for the support they receive.”

Thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas happy for those in need.
