For many families, back-to-school is an exciting time as children prepare for  the chance to reconnect with friends, and to explore the wonders of their new classrooms.  However, for some families, the financial struggle of sending students back to school, can be an overwhelming burden.  A Bank of Montreal survey shows that Atlantic Canadians will pay over $450 on average to send each child back-to-school fully equipped for the new year. This number is staggering, as so many families have to make serious decisions about what other necessity they will forgo in order to send their children to school with the materials required to succeed.  The Salvation Army holds an annual back-to-school drive throughout the summer to try to alleviate some of the costs for families in the Maritime provinces.  In the Halifax Regional Municipality alone last year, over 150 children went back to school with all of their supplies provided.
