Mental health is a topical issue, especially in the workplace. In Canada alone the cost for lost productivity due to mental health is 20 billion dollars a year.

The Employee Relations department at Maritime Divisional Headquarters is promoting mental health awareness in 2016, to educate our ministry units and to create a respectful environment where people are comfortable discussing mental health initiatives.

This week the ER department met with Starr Dobson, president and C.E.O. of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.  She provided the department with key information on mental health and is teaming up with The Salvation Army to offer a lunch and learn for our HRM personnel.

“Everyone’s experience of mental health is different, there are eating disorders, depression and many other issues that affect people’s ability to work. We want to remove the stigma that exists and take care of our officers, employees and volunteers,” says Maryann Doyle, divisional director of employee relations, of The Salvation Army.
