WEB1Christmas is fast approaching and the sounds of the season are in the air. An annual tradition, the Beary Merry Christmas Concert series is once again in full swing.

In Halifax, the 19th annual concert featuring the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy took place at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Monday. Joining the Standacona Band was The Cantatrice Ensemble girls’ choir, to entertain the crowd of nearly 1,000 spectators with a variety of holiday tunes. A first in the nearly two-decade history of the show, strong winds cut the power to the Cohn and forced a premature end of the concert. What the weather couldn’t do, however, was put a damper on the good accomplished by those in attendance. The event raised funds for The Salvation Army’s Christmas program for marginalized families, and collected nearly 1,000 stuffed animals and toys for children in need.

MonctonWEBEarlier this month, on Saturday, Nov. 15, the Riverview Arts Centre in Greater Moncton played host to its Beary Merry featuring the Fairview Citadel Band of The Salvation Army. That event also featured the Anglophone East District Choir and attracted a crowd of nearly 500 people. In addition to the music, the event served as a Christmas kettle kickoff for the region, with a ceremony that included Riverview Mayor Ann Seamans and Moncton Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman.

One concert remains, with Liverpool, NS, playing host to the Stadacona Band on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Astor Theatre. Tickets cost $8, plus the donation of a new teddy bear or toy. Call the box office at (902) 354-5250 or CLICK HERE for more information.
