In just under a month, New Brunswick’s Port City will play host to the third annual Hope in the City Leadership Breakfast, bringing Captain Richard Phillips to the stage with his true story of surviving piracy on the high seas. The breakfast will take place on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The morning will serve as a critical fundraiser for The Salvation Army Community Response Unit (CRU), a mobile canteen that allows The Salvation Army to quickly respond in times of crisis all over New Brunswick.

Captain Phillips is best known for his harrowing and heroic efforts to survive a hijacking ordeal that fascinated the world. His experience has been featured in the 2013 film ‘Captain Philips’ which focuses on the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Captain Philips is portrayed by Academy Award winner Tom Hanks.

Come to hear this remarkable speaker while supporting a great cause. Last year’s 2nd annual Hope in the City Breakfast drew nearly 700 people and featured the Honorable Frank McKenna.
