The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that the third annual Saint John Hope in the City Breakfast will take place on Friday, Nov.14, at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre. This year’s event will bring together community leaders for a morning of networking, education and entertainment, and will feature keynote speaker Captain Richard Phillips.

The morning will serve as a critical fundraiser for The Salvation Army Community Response Unit (CRU), a mobile canteen that allows The Salvation Army to quickly respond in times of crisis all over New Brunswick. In addition to disaster relief, the CRU also provides weekly service from November to March to priority neighborhoods in Saint John to help those living in poverty.

Captain Phillips is best known for his harrowing and heroic efforts to survive a hijacking ordeal that fascinated the world. His experience has been featured in the 2013 film ‘Captain Philips’ which focuses on the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. Captain Philips is portrayed by two time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks. You will not want to miss this opportunity to be intrigued by his true story of selflessness and courage which captured global attention. This dramatic tale of heroism will inspire within you the importance of leadership and team work.

Come to hear this remarkable speaker while supporting a great cause. Last year’s 2nd annual Hope in the City Breakfast drew nearly 700 people and featured the Honorable Frank McKenna.
