Gen. Rick Hillier (Ret.), once the top soldier in Canada and commander of NATO-led forces in Afghanistan, will be in Halifax in May to support The Salvation Army, serving as keynote speaker at the third annual Hope in the City Leadership Breakfast

The event, an annual fundraiser for The Salvation Army, will take place on Thursday, May 15, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Westin Nova Scotian. It will bring together approximately 400 business people and community leaders for a morning of networking, education and entertainment in support of the work The Salvation Army is doing in our community.

Born in Newfoundland and Labrador, General Rick Hillier joined the Canadian Forces in 1973 through the Regular Officer Training Plan program. Throughout his career, General Hillier has had the privilege of commanding troops from the platoon to multi-national formation level within Canada, Europe, Asia and the United States.

In May 2003, Hillier was appointed as Commander of the Army and subsequently, in October 2003, he was selected as the Commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. Hillier was promoted to General and assumed duties as the Chief of the Defence Staff in February 2005 and retired in July 2008.

He now focuses professionally on leadership development and contribution to his community and country through honorary appointments and charitable endeavors to support a variety of causes.

CTV Atlantic news anchor Steve Murphy will also be at the event, returning to serve as emcee for the third consecutive year.

The event is generously sponsored by TELUS, CIBC and Investors Group.

Tickets are available for the event at a cost of $50, or you can purchase a table of 10 for $500. CLICK HERE to download a ticket order form.
