The Salvation Army prioritizes youth ministry in a big way.

Last year, the Division added a third retreat to its annual schedule with a specific focus on college-aged youth. This year marked the second annual College and Careers Retreat in Truro, NS, with nearly 30 young adults in attendance from across the Maritimes.

The theme for the weekend – Look At Us – The Stage is Set! – challenged participants to live for the moment and realize that a Christian life is not a dress rehearsal. Major Randy Hicks (Ret.) led the group through the weekend with laughter and animation, and left a lasting impression on all.

“The entire weekend was just so powerful, and I felt as though Major Randy was speaking directly to me,” says Jesse Byers, a delegate and youth leader from Yarmouth, NS. “College and Careers Retreat was a wake-up call for me and I took that as an opportunity to wipe away my excuses and face what God asks of me.”
