A holiday tradition is in full swing, as the Beary Merry Christmas concert series is off and running after a pair of shows in Halifax this week.

The performances, featuring the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy with emcee Liz Rigney and vocal performers, took place on Monday and Tuesday at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium. Large crowds came out both nights for the event in Halifax, treating themselves to a Christmas tradition now in its 17th year. Once again, those in attendance were entertained by special guests the Cantatrice Ensemble, a renowned local girls’ choir that has become a fan favourite.

The event also encouraged patrons to donate a new toy for The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas assistance. This program provides Christmas hampers with food for a Christmas dinner and gifts to go under the tree for children, providing a Christmas experience that would be absent without this support. Last year, The Salvation Army helped 17,000 children in the Maritimes through this program. At the Halifax concerts alone, more than 1,000 stuffed animals and toys were donated.

Our friends from KOOL FM – the official media partner of the concert in Halifax – were onsite helping to collect all the toys.

Now the concert series hits the road, with stops in Sydney (Nov. 30), Moncton (Dec. 4) and Liverpool (Dec. 8) still on the agenda. Stay tuned for more updates as the travelling act makes its way around the region.
