Everybody enjoys a summer bike ride. But for too many children in our region, that simply isn’t an option because they don’t have a working bike.
Halifax radio station Energy 103.5, in partnership with Sportwheels in Lower Sackville, donated 25 refurbished children’s bicycles to The Salvation Army on Saturday, ensuring that some of those kids in need will get a new summer ride.
The donation was the result of the Recycle Your Cycle contest in which Energy 103.5 gave away a bike a day throughout the month of May. The contest winners were given a brand new bike from Sportwheels in exchange for their current bicycle. The team at Sportwheels then went to work refurbishing the bikes to like-new condition. Each bike was then packaged with a brand new helmet and collected by The Salvation Army on Saturday. Over the coming weeks the bikes will be donated to children in need around HRM.
Thank you to everyone at Energy 103.5 and Sportwheels for incorporating a message of giving into their contest, ensuring that this contest produced twice the number of winners.
