The Cape Breton Free-Wheelin’ Motorcycle Association is hosting its 25th annual Salvation Army Toy Ride this Sunday, Sept. 25.

Registration for the event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Sydney Mines Community Centre. From there, riders will take off at noon and make their way through North Sydney, Sydney, Whitney Pier, New Waterford, Dominion, Glace Bay and Reserve Mines, finally ending at the Salvation Army on Inglis Street in Sydney.

Captain Felipe Vega, Sydney Community Ministries Officer, says they’re expecting between 200-300 riders for the event.

The large group of bikers will be collecting toy donations as they travel through the region. Every year, donations are given to different branches of the Salvation Army to help make Christmas special for local families.

“It’s a neat thing,” says Captain Vega, who will be experiencing the event for the first time on Sunday. “Sometimes bikers get a bad rap, so it’s really great to see this type of effort.”

The bikers will be making two brief stops; one at the Sydney River Walmart at approximately 12:30 p.m. and another at Tim Hortons in New Waterford around 1:45 p.m. Toys and other donations will also be accepted during these two stops.
