The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Simcoe Thrift Store and to ensure consistent profitability of the store by implementing national and regional standards in sales, customer service, merchandising, marketing, public relations, store staff training, reclamation, and product donation flow, and the processing of in store donations
Direct all operations of the store to meet sales targets and control expenses
Hire, orientate, train, evaluate and discipline in concert with Territorial/National standards
Manage health/safety and other related issues at a store level
Supervise as well as participate in sorting and tagging merchandise, unloading donations, stocking shelves and performing cash transactions
Plan store layout to attract customers, including window displays and merchandise displays, decides on in-store promotions and auctions; ensure attractiveness of the store through ”Tidy Maintenance”
Maintain a high level of customer service and create an attractive environment for customers
Determine and maintain appropriate stock levels based on spot checks of the store and reviewing weekly sales records
Complete all financial/operational paperwork and submit same to Ministry Unit Officer/s in a timely manner, and in accordance with organisation standards
Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the store is up to standard policy
Maintain control of inventory by ensuring that all merchandise is priced appropriately; control inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
Ensure in-store safety of volunteers and customers, i.e. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, clean spillage; ensure that the property (store) is secured at all times
Prepare and manage budget within guidelines; execute budget objectives by attaining sales margins, maintaining staff cost ratios; profit objectives as established by the region; ensure that banking is completed nightly or as per store policy into the appropriate financial institution.
Analyze store financial statements; strategizes appropriate action to attain financial goals, monitor cost of goods.
Prepare financial and other reports as required by the supervisor.

Assure prompt and accurate check out service by properly supervising the training and scheduling of volunteers in accordance with the workload
Perform other position related duties as required
Completion of a College Diploma in Business/Retail Management or equivalent
Basic accounting experience is required.
Minimum of three (3) years of prior related retail store management experience, specifically in second hand merchandise preferred and supervisory, human resources, return to work programs and performance management experience
Experience with and an understanding of the OHSA, WSIB, Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation.
Self-motivated and disciplined
Good merchandising skills, brand awareness and a flair for conceiving and implementing creative merchandising themes
Strong operations experience in receiving, stock and inventory as well as front-end management and office management
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication, leadership and organizational skills
Ability to lift/move 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs)
Ability to develop and maintain a team environment
Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL)

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry

This is a permanent, full time position. Schedule will vary according to the Thrift Store operational requirements, Monday through Saturday. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Some travel is required.
This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods, and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the salary amount.
