RESPONSIBILITIES:
In an efficient, kind and safe manner, assist clients with the provision of activities of daily living as required, including bathing, feeding, washroom assistance etc.
Monitor and supervise clients and the environment to ensure safety, report concerns to the Director or designate
Assist with the safe arrival and departure of participants
Encourage and guide Volunteers as assigned
Mentor PSW students as assigned
Perform laundry, cleaning, end of day routine and submit completed forms to Director
As requested purchase supplies according to program protocol
Submit weekly grocery list to Director
Prepare and distribute morning snacks/nourishments and distribute noon meal, meeting client’s dietary requirements, as directed by the Community Nurse
Maintain accurate documentation and records
Perform and document daily temperature checks (freezer refrigerator and sanitizer) and report concerns to Director
Coordinate storage of participant belongings/supplies and inform Community Nurse when supplied need to be replenished.
Lift and transfer clients using mechanical or physical means according to established protocol
Assist clients with mobility as required
Stock kitchen, spa and washroom supplies, monitor and request inventory as per procedure
Respond calmly and professionally in emergency situations and assist as directed
Assist the Community Nurse with client health assessments
Assist with or lead activity programs as required
Report any actual or potential problems/situations to the Director or designate.
Complete and submit incident reports.
Perform other position related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed Secondary School
Personal Support Worker Certificate
Current First Aid/CPR certification
Safe Food Handlers certificate
Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience working with cognitively impaired/frail elderly populations
Gentle Persuasive Approach or Crisis Prevention Intervention training
Bilingual in French an asset
Montessori for Dementia Care certificate is preferred
U-First Training is preferred
Demonstrated ability to work within a computerized environment
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required
Capable of establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
Demonstrated ability to follow directives, be self- directed, and to direct others within established boundaries
Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

This is a casual/relief position, no guaranteed hours; work will be offered on an as needed basis as per the program hours of operation. Normal program hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Some weekend and evening work may be required. The Supervisor will schedule work as per the program hours of operation.
