The Divisional Director of Development will have responsibility for developing and implementing successful major gifts/Planned Giving programs at Headquarters. These programs will form a framework used to guide, support and recommend improvements for Major Gift and Planning Giving results. The primary mandate will be to research and cultivate new relationships and capitalize on existing relationships with organizations and foundations, and individuals who prefer to work directly with DHQ. Guidelines have been established to coordinate activities within Regional and Branch Development Offices and all other Salvation Army Centres or Ministry Units.

Major Gifts:
• Cultivate relationships with targeted corporations, business and foundations that will complement the overall mission of The Salvation Army.
• Engage in prospect review, research, documentation, cultivation and solicitation and stewardship of corporations, businesses and foundations.
• Work in cooperation with public relations and other development personnel with respect to building awareness in the business community.
• Develop and expand existing donor relationships with a goal of enhancing support
• Maintain an on-going, formal call program with major gifts donors and prospects, maximizing the potential of corporate sponsorship opportunities.
• Prepare annual business plans for major giving.
• Provide support to Divisional operations by:
o – Reviewing MG business plans and budgets,
o – Conducting training on the principles of major giving,
o – Participating in hiring and performance reviews of major giving staff as required,
o – Developing and conducting orientation for new major giving personnel,
o – Providing consulting on capital campaign matters,
o – Preparing and circulating major giving material to divisional major giving personnel.
Planned Giving:
• Oversee and facilitate the administration of the program which is processed through THQ.
• Establish planned giving policies and procedures, goals and objectives in concert with Divisional staff.
• Establish a shared vision and fresh approach to cultivating and managing long-term relationships.
• Prepare annual business plans for THQ planned giving
• Develop new and innovative planned giving instruments
• Prepare and circulate planned giving material
• Provide support to Divisional operations by:
o – Reviewing PG business plans and budgets
o – Conducting training on the principles of planned/deferred giving
o – Participating in hiring and performance reviews of planned giving staff as required
o – Developing and conducting orientation for new planned giving personnel

• University degree in business and/or professional designation required
• Ideal background in a multi-faceted, national organization
• Proven fundraising ability with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
• Past experience and demonstrated success in the management of major gift programs
• Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamentals governing planned giving programs
• Experience in the development of strategic and business plans and budget management
• Success in enlisting the support and enthusiasm of senior volunteers
