RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Day Camp Coordinator to develop and plan the camp
Choose, lead and effectively implement the Bible program in coordination with the brass, music theory and craft programs
Assist in the direct leadership of daily operations and will take the place of the Day Camp Coordinator if the Coordinator is unavailable.
Assist in the development of the staff training program and train camp staff
Assist the Day Camp Coordinator to ensure camper and employee safety
Provide leadership and direct supervision of the volunteers
Oversee the actions of the Day Camp Assistant Coordinator and Day Camp Assistants in the preservation and integrity of the church building and premises
Communicate with camper families as required
Support day camp marketing efforts
Assist the Day Camp Coordinator in the evaluation of the staff, programs, and overall camp evaluation at the conclusion of camp
Order and maintain program supplies as needed
Provide direction and supervision of the camp staff and the campers
Perform other position related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed secondary school and enrolled in a post-secondary program
Minimum of one (1) years of prior related experience in social services, inclusive of supervisory experience
A love of music and working with children
An extensive brass knowledge with a kind, gentle, and patient demeanor to deal with beginning players
Strong oral and written communication skills
Current First Aid & CPR Certification
Self-motivated and disciplined
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, i.e. WORD
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

This position may be funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
o be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the program
o have been registered as full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
o be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
o be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

This is a temporary, full time position based on 40 hours per week. The working conditions are such that in order to meet the operational needs of the camp some flexibility is required as it relates to hours of work.

Start Date: July 3rd, 2017 End Date: August 11th, 2017

Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities for clean-up for before and after camp for the duration of the camp program. The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. The normal hours of work are Monday to Friday – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Required to provide written confirmation of enrolment for the next academic year in a post-secondary program.
