Ensure the general upkeep of the facility i.e. empty all garbage receptacles, vacuum all carpeted areas, as needed, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas – with special attention to washrooms and kitchen, clean all glass areas and dust all offices and furnishings, with special attention to window ledges and cabinet tops and replace light bulbs as necessary.
Clean and polish sinks and counter tops, mirrors and fixtures.
Monitor and maintain stock of regularly used items, i.e. mops, brooms, lights, supplies etc. and order/purchases as required.
Keep accurate records relating to product ordering etc.
Perform minor repairs to equipment and building as required.
Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
Maintain security of janitor’s room/property at all times.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as garbage clean up, Lawn Maintenance and keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice etc.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Restock washrooms supplies and distributes received material as required.
Spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors and shampoo carpets as required.
Perform other position related duties as required.
Set up and take down chairs and tables throughout building as required for mid-week, rentals and Sunday meetings.
Open and Close building for rental groups as required.
Perform other position related duties as required.

Secondary School education
A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures
Effective stock taking/ordering skills; effective skills in oral/written communication, listening, organization and planning, time management, interpersonal relationships and social interaction.
Self-motivated and disciplined
Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs.
Performance of the job requires mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/ lifting.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

This is a permanent part time position based on 10 hours per week. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – weekend and evening work will be required. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Work schedule will be determined in consultation with the Corps Officer or designate.
