Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facility i.e. empty all garbage receptacles, put garbage out for designated garbage day, vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, dust all offices and furnishings, and replace light bulbs as necessary.
Table & Chair cleaning and ‘set-up’ and take down for various programs/activities, as necessary.
Clean and polish sinks, toilets and counter tops, mirrors and fixtures.
Monitor and maintain stock of regularly used items, i.e. mops, brooms, lights, supplies etc., and order/purchases as required.
Perform a number of minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting, reports safety concerns and major repair issues.
Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
Maintain security and organization of custodian room contents
Maintain the security of property at all times
Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawn, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up and up keep of storage shed.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Restock washrooms supplies and distributes received material as required.
Spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required.
Perform other position related duties as required.
A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures
Effective stock taking/ordering skills
Effective skills in oral/written communication, listening, organization and planning, time management, interpersonal relationships and social interaction.
Self-motivated and disciplined
Be able to lift/move more than 20 pounds as required.
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
An understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada

This is a part time position based on 20 hours per week
Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities; flexibility is required; may include afternoon and evening shifts, Monday through Saturday and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.
The supervisor will set the work schedule in consultation with the incumbent and may include shifts between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Normal Hours of Work: Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
