Assist with daily functions at the Community and Family Services office & pantry including sorting and preparation of food donations for distribution, restocking pantry shelves, emptying garbage bins regularly, and light cleaning duties.
May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records as directed
Provide emergency food hampers to clients as directed.
Assist with activities outside the Food bank such as food drives and fundraising events.
Design and draft promotional material that highlights various programs operated by the Community and Family Services as required; subject to supervisory approval.
Perform other position related duties as required.

Currently enrolled in some form of post-secondary education, preferably Social Service Work program or equivalent
Some prior related experience
Self-motivated and disciplined
Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
The desire to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
Computer literate in Microsoft Office products
Experience with desktop publishing software, page layout, and graphics techniques
Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and a current drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the program
have been registered as full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

This is a temporary, full time position based on 30 hours per week. Available for the complete nine (9) weeks is a requirement.
The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. The hours of work will vary each week as per operational requirements and the hours of operation, which are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. The working conditions are such that in order to meet the operational needs of the job some flexibility is required as it relates to hours of work. Some travel required
