Stigma Stomp!


For the second consecutive year, The Salvation Army has declared May as Dignity Month.

May 6th – 11th is Mental Health Awareness Week and May 11th has been declared as “STIGMA STOMPDAY” by the City of Victoria. Stigma Stomp Day was established in order to educate the public in order to stomp out the stigmas associated with mental illness.

Partnering with Ken Lavigne, The Salvation Army spoke about the importance to Keep Holding On when faced with a difficult time in your life.

Ken Lavigne, in his first public speaking engagement spoke about his decade long partnership with The Salvation Army, through the annual Naden Band Concert, “It’s been something that I’ve been really proud to associate with,” he told the capacity crowd.

The Salvation Army Celebrates Easter in Victoria.


This past weekend saw The Salvation Army in Victoria celebrate Easter with the community on multiple occasions.

Wednesday April 4th marked a wonderful feast as ARC’s community kitchen prepared a wonderful turkey meal with all the trimmings to celebrate Easter.  Special meals such as this one are served up about four times a year and generally around holidays. Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Received …


Friday, March 30th, at Government House in Victoria, British Columbia, His Honour the Honourable Steven Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to volunteers who have been instrumental in supporting his programs and initiatives.

Donations Sail in.


Crew from HMCS Protecteur worked together in order to make a generous donation to The Salvation Army in Victoria, BC. Melanie Vokey, Sub-Lieutenant, of the HMCS Protecteur dropped off boxes filled with personal care and hygiene items including razors, mouthwash, tampax, soap, combs, facecloths and toothbrushes. In addition to the $1,500 worth of goods, the HMCS Protecteur also donated $1,000 which will be split between the Addictions and Rehabilitation Centre and the Stan Hagen Centre for Families. A big thank you to St. Michaels University School!  They dropped off a large donation of fresh fruit, vegetables and milk to the Stan Hagen Centre on March 15th.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are very important to maintain good health and so, this donation will benefit the individuals and families in Victoria who use the Stan Hagen Centre.

YEARS of dedicated service at Sunset Lodge.


Last Thursday, March 8th Sunset Lodge held an afternoon reception to recognize staff members who have achieved the milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of devoted service.

Poetry classes held in Victoria.


The Salvation Army welcomes poetry teacher, Dvora Levin, to the Addictions & Rehabilitation Centre in Victoria.  Levin will host her poetry classes starting on March 7th and then on each Wednesday for 2 months or as needed from 10 – 11:30am.

The classes will be of significant value to the clients at ARC, offering emotional support in addition to a new skill through a new or renewed interest in poetry and writing.  It is with great hope that those in attendance […]


Stan Hagen Centre Renaming Celebration


On Saturday December 3 The Salvation Army inVictoriarenamed their Community and Family Services Centre to The Stan Hagen Centre for Families.

Celebrations included a traditional  Welcome Song & Dance performed by the Esquimalt Singers and Dancers, speeches by Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, MLA for OakBay– Gordon Head, Ida Chong and MLA for Saanich North and the Islands, Murray Coell. Sea of Lights in Victoria


The Royal Victoria Yacht Club’s annual SEA OF LIGHTS parade will set sail again on Friday December 2nd at 7:00 pm in partnership with the local Oak Bay municipality.

The purpose of this event is to contribute to civic pride and enjoyment of the holiday season, while generating donations to the Salvation Army Christmas Fund, and the Oak Bay Kiwanis charity.

The parade is led by HMCS Oriole, and engages some thirty-plus brightly-decorated boats!
