On Friday, The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light celebrated a very special "gratitude day" recognizing clients graduating from Phase 1 (90 days) and Phase 2 (living skills) of the treatment program along with celebrating a high school graduation!

After years of struggling with his health and homelessness, 60-year-old Brian Work is about to move into his own apartment.

Work was once the owner of a successful signage company, but after retiring to follow his passion of bicycling full-time, a heart problem forced him to hit the brakes on his dreams. 1300 people from the DTES were treated to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and deluxe desserts at The Salvation Army Harbour Light thanks to VCC!

All the food was prepared by VCC’s culinary students made up the cooking team and volunteers included staff, students, and community members.

MANY THANKS to VCC for sponsoring this event! Our clients really appreciated the amazing meal and we’re blessed in knowing that someone cares so much even after the holiday season is done.

This Sunday, October 20th will mark the Annual Thanksgiving meal that will be served to well over a thousand residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Lower Eastside community through The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light.

The menu will include a full turkey meal including cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, a variety of fresh vegetables, buns, fresh fruit, pumpkin and apple pie with whipped cream as well as hot tea and juice.

The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light is celebrating its 60th Anniversary.  October 1, 2013 will mark the 60th year that The Salvation Army has served in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

We are asking YOU to donate either $60 or 60 minutes of volunteer time to continue to help and support those in need.  This effort will be running for the next 60 days leading up to the Anniversary date beginning as of Friday, August 2nd.
