Congratulations! The Salvation Army of Chilliwack won the Not-for-Profit Award at the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence gala dinner recently.

Chilliwack Community Ministries Director Tim Bohr states, "It was quite a surprise, considering the calibre of our fellow nominees, many of whom would be considered "heavy hitters" in our community. We are very pleased to have been so honoured and feel it is a meaningful validation of our efforts to both improve and expand our services this past year. We are most proud of our partnering with the Chilliwack community.  We strive to meet needs but want to be a part of the whole, where we all can come together to help solve the concerns and issues of our community. The best example of this partnership recently was the opening of our 30-bed Temporary Homeless Shelter in our Soup Kitchen."

This initiative was the result of collaborative effort between The Salvation Army, the City of Chilliwack, our local MLA's advocacy, Griffin Security, Chilliwack Fire Department and Emergency Response, and BC Housing. The result was the provision of safe, dry, and low barrier shelter for the  ccupants of Chilliwack's homeless camp on Empress Lane.
