Those who are in need of food have yet to be forgotten in New Westminster. Every weekday at The Salvation Army New Westminster Citadel, for the past 15 years starting at 1:00pm, food hampers are given out to individuals in need, including; seniors, singles, families, refugees and individuals who are homeless. On these days between 75 to 150 individuals are served and are able to receive a food hamper including not just bread but also meat, dairy products and on Wednesdays produce as well.  With the partnership of Save on Foods, Safeway, Vancouver Harbour Light, North Vancouver Corps and several other corporate donations, local individuals are given hope for the future in the form of a food hamper.

Operating out of the New Westminster Citadel, this service is for those living New Westminster and the Tri-Cities. However, those who walk through the door are never turned away and instead are welcomed in and invited to come and receive food in an emergency.

This service is run by Corneliu Sandru, Carlos Galvez and Eva Galvez with the support of countless volunteers, many of whom have been used this service in the past.  Volunteer Tania states

“I volunteer to give back to the public and The Salvation Army for the help that they gave me because they have done so much for me in the past”.

With a bag of fresh food in hand, those served can be seen leaving the building with smiles on their faces knowing that they now have one less thing to worry about.  A huge thanks to those who support this program, you truly are our Heroes for Hope.
