With snow on the ground and a winter chill in the air, The Salvation Army’s Addictions and Rehabilitation Centre hosted its annual “post-Christmas Christmas Dinner” on Thursday, January 19th.

Organizers were expecting anywhere from 250-350 people to come in and enjoy the turkey feast with all the trimmings, however an amazing 550 people came in to dine with us.

It has been a tradition of  The Salvation Army to serve a Christmas meal for our clients; however, due to the amount of feasts offered in Victoria around December 25th, we decided to move ours to mid-January to better serve this population. This enables our clients to enjoy all the special meals in the city instead of choosing one over the other. It also extends the Christmas spirit into the New Year providing a sense of community and friendship in one of the bleaker months on the calendar.

We would like to thank all the community partners who came together to make this meal a possibility, including the students of the culinary program at Camosun College along with all our volunteers and our kitchen staff.
