terracetoydriveIt was Christmas In September! The sky was cloudy, yet laden with sunlight which softened the brisk temperatures of the early fall September day.

The Road Runners motorcycle club has been sponsoring the Terrace Corps toy drive for 27 years.  Jim Braie and Helen Martinot-Blue Grass Gospel musicians/avid bikers-have teamed together for over 14 years to organize the clubs initiative and cyclers who come from as far away as Hazelton, Price Rupert and Kitimat.

“It’s for the kids! And it brings the cyclists together for a good cause,” said an excited Jim.

While enjoying another memorable 1.5 hour ride through Thornhill and Terrace, the 185 bikers that participated were able to collect 250 toys, a great start to the Terrace Christmas effort for 2009.

Salvation Army Captain David Moulton has participated as the rear guard in the annual ride for eight years now. “Each year it gets better.” The Captain promises to participate again next year.

The riders are planning a Bike Rodeo for this event in the 30th year, with a call to the kids and parents to join in the anniversary fun.

The ride concluded at the Northern Motor Inn who graciously provided a free BBQ and refreshments.
