According to Statistics Canada about one-third of seniors, aged 65 or older, aren’t getting proper nutrition.

A report based on a 2008/2009 survey suggests various factors are significantly associated with seniors and their nutritional risk. They include loneliness, infrequent social participation, a decline in activities like shopping and cooking, and fixed incomes.

Furthermore 10 percent of Canada’s population is food insecure, meaning they don’t have continual access to sufficient quantities and nutritious food.

Are these numbers worrisome?

They certainly have profound impacts on the demand for social services.
