Siemens Canada, with the help of Corporations For Community Connections Inc. (CFCC), an organization which refurbishes used computers for donation, recently donated 300 refurbished laptops to three Salvation Army locations.

“Our schools expect students to be able to access computers,” says Philip Schaus, purchasing manager for Siemens Canada and president of CFCC. “I have a number of teachers that have become involved with us, they tell me that often students who come from families that can’t afford computers prefer not to turn in assignments, as opposed to admitting they don’t have a computer.”

Computers present an opportunity for development and making a difference. These laptops will be distributed to low-income families who otherwise would not be able to afford one. From helping with a child’s homework to creating job opportunities, these computers will open doors for many families in need.

“CFCC is committed to making a difference in their communities and The Salvation Army is grateful that companies like this are active and engaged in the lives of Canadians in need,” says Lois Flemming, National Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving.

Laptops were delivered to Salvation Army locations in Tillsonburg, Ont., Fredericton, N.B., and Montreal, Que., giving hope to vulnerable youth and families for a better future.
