salvationarmy_chile_update3The Salvation Army in Canada is sending US$58,000 to assist Chile with ongoing relief efforts following the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated much of the country.

In Chile, The Salvation Army has expanded its emergency relief response. Government approval was given for The Salvation Army to use an emergency mobile feeding unit for the provision of relief in Concepcion, one of the most damaged cities. Emergency relief is also being provided by The Salvation Army in Santiago and Os Valparaiso.

Salvation Army property in Concepcion and surrounding areas was damaged. The airport in Santiago was seriously damaged and flights have been suspended. Also, many hospitals suffered considerable structural damage and, as a result, were evacuated.

The International Salvation Army is providing financial assistance and its emergency services teams will provide whatever practical assistance is required.
