Charities are experiencing the benefit of having a presence on its supporters’ mobile devices, social media pages and desktop computers. Add an animated giving experience and you’ve got a virtual life like giving tool. The idea is to encourage spontaneous donations more often, by being present when their moment of inspiration arrives. With Nadanu, charities can encourage and collect donations from anywhere at any time. The Salvation Army in Canada has signed on to this way of thinking.

By collaborating with New York-based Nadanu, supporters of The Salvation Army in Canada can now access a customized “Fill the Kettle” app this holiday season. The application can be downloaded onto their iPhone, Blackberry, Facebook page or accessed through their mobile phones and The Army’s website https://salvationarmy.ca/fillthekettle/. The “Fill the Kettle app” provides a creative and interactive way for The Salvation Army to encourage and collect donations. Modeled after a Salvation Army Kettle commonly found at department stores throughout the country during holiday season, donors drop virtual gold coins into the kettle and interact with the giving experience by visualizing the Kettle filling up and hearing the coins fall in.

“The Salvation Army in Canada is thrilled to be partnering with Nadanu during the Christmas season,” says Graham Moore, Territorial Secretary for Public Relations and Development for The Salvation Army in Canada. “Charitable giving is very important and seeing the creation of something that encourages support while allowing the donor to have a little bit of fun is a great thing.”

Getzy Fellig, CEO of Nadanu Technologies says he expects the technology to change the way people think of giving in general. “By re-introducing the inspiration and physical activity of giving a contribution even in an online or mobile environment, people can experience the real thing even when they can’t. The Salvation Army Kettle is a part of Christmas; people might miss the opportunity to share in this simple act of kindness because they shop online or don’t make it to the mall, now they don’t have too.”
