Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Program Coordinator, the Residence Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents with practical support to re-integrate them into the community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Conscientiously observes the confidential nature of the agency’s service to its residents; maintains confidentiality of youth identity and information, personal information of staff, location of house, house van and cell phone.

·        Must have an intimate working knowledge of all ARC and Hope House policies.

·        Receives residents in a pleasant and courteous manner. Maintains a calm and secure environment through quiet unobtrusive presence.

·        Exercises safe and careful driving while transporting residents to and from facility

·        Monitors the activities of the residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support.

·        Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks, completes occurrence reports and other shift reporting (e.g. Shift structure report, Shift monitoring, drill logs, etc.).

·        Provides life skills training (personal hygiene, physical health, communication, etc.) for residents.

·        Acts as resident advocate when necessary; acts as positive role model.

·        Liaises with external agencies if necessary in urgent situations.

·        Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect.

·        Coordinates client care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches.

·        Conducts regular security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures.

·        Maintains awareness of and respect for the house and programming schedules (keep things on track) and provides input to the corresponding shift counsellor for planning activities for the following week.

·        Record and submit receipts for preapproved purchases, gas and grocery expenses as per program funds and spending protocols.

·        After intake documentation has been completed with counsellor, review expectations of youth, explain to youth that they can approach any staff member for assistance and evaluate the residents understanding of the guidelines; ensures the ongoing enforcement of policies, documents and communicates any non-compliance to Program Manager.

·        Arranges and provides transportation for residents to and from appointments, helps to organize programming activities and outings.

·        Performs housekeeping duties each shift per the shift tasks and expectations.

·        Meal preparation as per approved 8 week meal planning rotation.

·        Attends staff meetings as required. Maintains knowledge of legislative and company policies with respect to Health & Safety Regulations, Provincial and Municipal highway traffic acts.

·        Performs other duties as assigned by Program Manager.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES:

·        The successful job applicant will have completed a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field.   NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

·        One year but less than three years of prior related experience including, frontline work in a social services setting (with youth), life skills and experience in a related field.

·        Class 5 Driver’s License

·        WHMIS training

·        Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

 

Note: A TB Screening Test, Criminal Record Check and Federal Government “Enhanced Reliability” Security Clearance are a condition for employment.

 

The use of a personal vehicle is not required in the performance of duties. This position requires union membership.

 

Employment Terms:

·        1 Permanent Full Time position – 37.5 hours per week ( Mon to Fri 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM)

·        1 Casual position – Variable hours
