Imagine sleeping under some flattened cardboard behind a local hotel or lining up in sub-zero weather at soup vans. In an affluent society like ours these seem to be remote concepts, but they are true.

Statistics reveal that in Canada one in 11 people live in poverty making access to everyday needs like food, shelter and clothing, difficult. Out of desperation people do what they must to survive, leaving their dignity and pride behind.

The Salvation Army believes that all people deserve respect, dignity and a chance for a better life. The Salvation Army “Dignity Project”, which launches in early March, is a multi-platform program designed to inspire and educate the public about the challenges facing society’s most vulnerable.

People’s lives change when they are treated with dignity and The Salvation Army is asking all Canadians to join The Dignity Project at SalvationArmy.ca/dignityproject. Find out what it means to live without dignity and what you can do to help.

Together we can take action to address the dehumanizing scourge of poverty and injustice.
