Initial relief efforts are in place and The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda is sending $50,000 to provide water to drought-stricken Africa where more than 12 million people are at risk of starvation.

Funds will support people in northern Kenya by:
– providing people in villages with clean, safe water for drinking and cooking.
– reducing the distance and time spent collecting water from sources.
– improving accessibility of water to school children for drinking, cooking and washing.
– reducing the risk of school girls being abused as they seek for water in dry river beds and bushes.

It is estimated that this project will benefit approximately 5,000 people in the villages and 2,000 students of various schools around Lodwar and Lokitaung.
